Glory of the Lamb

$8.00

Come look through John’s eyes as he meditates on the Lamb of Glory before creation, all through the Old Testament, in the days of His flesh on earth, when He was lifted up on a Cross, when He drank the Father’s Cup of eternal wrath, and ascended back into God’s arms. From glory to glory, from before creation to His exaltation, from Eternity past to Eternity future—this is the story of the glory of Christ—God’s eternal Lamb. Many testify they were so undone by this book, it caused a continual “piercing” in their hearts. When they saw for the first time the depths of the Cup Jesus drank, a passion for the Lamb ignited and the fire has never dimmed. It is the cornerstone book of this entire ministry (McDougal, 2004).

Chapter One: An old apostle gazes out over the Aegean Sea, watching the rising sun cast orange folds across the lapping waves. In the delicious cool of early dawn, he closes his eyes to worship. Tears cling to his lashes as he pours out his love to the Lord.

As he worships, the Holy Spirit settles down over him like a soft blanket. But suddenly, the power of His presence increases. John’s heart fills and his whole being trembles with the presence of God. He looks up and sees the heavens tearing open. He gazes into the throne room and hears a voice cry, “Behold the Lion of the tribe of Judah!”

John squints the eyes of his spirit to look. What he sees takes his breath away. There stands Jesus. He looks like “a Lamb standing as though it had been slain” (Rev 5:6, AMP).

John’s heart fills with emotion, and tears burst from his eyes. “Oh, my Jesus!” he cries, scrambling to his feet. The sight of the Lord causes strength to rush through his body. He reaches up with all his might as if to touch the feet of God.

John is amazed at the sight. This is the Man he walked with for over three years. He stood beside Him as He reached out and touched the oozing sores of lepers and the sightless eyes of beggars. He watched Him weep and pray and sweat blood in the garden.

He looked on as the whip ripped through His human flesh and the nails bored through His hands and feet. He gazed at the blood and tears dripping down His face and matting in crusty drops in His beard. He saw Him engulf every burning drop of the Father’s cup. He beheld His side, streaming with blood and water.

He was there when Jesus walked through the walls in the Upper Room on Resurrection Day, showing those present the wounds still carved in His flesh. He stood on the Mount of Olives and saw Him as He ascended, caught away by a shining cloud. But now He sees Him standing in the throne room, still bearing wounds like a slain Lamb.

Here stands Jesus like a gleaming lamp, glory shining out from within Him and filling all of Heaven with His light. Thunder peals and lightning flashes from the throne. Rainbows of brilliance flood the eternal realm, but every eye focuses on One Person—God’s Son who looks like a Lamb. “He is the sole expression of the glory of God [the Light-being, the out-raying or radiance of the divine] (Heb 1:3, AMP).

John hears myriads of angelic beings, the seraphim, the cherubim, the heavenly Sanhedrin, worshiping the Lamb. He crumples in a heap onto the rocks, for at last he knows, really knows—Jesus is receiving the glory He deserves for what He suffered as a Lamb.

Nothing means more to the old apostle. This was his highest passion. It was his driving motive and his purest ambition. Above all else, he wanted Jesus to receive the reward of His suffering. Just as the scripture says, “He will see the result of the suffering of his soul and be satisfied” (Isaiah 53:11, MT).

John rubs his eyes and focuses on the Lamb. As he does, a revelation of the Lamb rushes over him. He swallows against the tightness in his throat, for he knows this glory traces back to the Glory of the Lamb before the world was ever made…
